The XO laptop (nicknamed the dollar laptop percent) is at the heart of 'One Laptop Per Child's mission. The handset has been designed by industry experts, and built by Quanta. E 'was specially built to be a flexible, responsive, ultra-low cost, ultra-efficient, lasting from the beginning.
The 7.5 inch screen has the alternative view: transmission, a full color, fully illuminated mode and a reflection that the screen goes black and white, but it isstill readable in sunlight. In the latter mode, consumes just 0.2 watts. The transmissive mode still consumes about one watt, but which is still about one-seventh of the average LCD laptop sector.
Additional savings come from the CPU to suspend the operations of selective cutting of the need for power. All of these energy-saving initiatives means that the XO laptop consumes about one-tenth the power of a standard laptop sales - less than 2W!

Where the direct power is not available, the XO laptop can be powered by solar energy or manually, the options include a crank, a pedal or a pull-agreement.
Durability from the beginning was a function key. Similarly the need to appeal to its target audience, children was also taken into account, so both of weight and looks were also important issues.
As a result, the XO laptop is about the sizea textbook, the edges are rounded and weigh no more than the average lunchbox (approximetly 1.5 kg depending on the battery). The 'hinge transformer' allows it to function as an e-book, game console and a standard laptop. The child-friendly interface has a rubber membrane keyboard and a dual-mode, extra large touch pad for pointing, drawing and writing.
Added strength comes from the absence of moving parts and the hard drive, which is statistically more likelyto fail. The walls are almost twice as thick as a standard laptop to 2mm too. Protection of its USB ports is by mobile-mesh network, the display will also be mitigated by internal 'bumper'.
The XO laptop is about 5 years old. Before their first ship, the laptops were exposed to test ruthless, often to destruction to ensure durability for both men and machine ... and child.
